What is the difference between “filtration” and “separation”?

Separation vs. filtration!
In our field, we use these two terms on a daily basis! But do you really know the definition of filtration and separation?
Separation of mixtures is the isolation or separation of certain particles from the mixtures in which they are found. The term separation is used more for liquid mixtures when we want to separate one liquid from another.
Filtration is used to separate solid particles from liquid particles in a mixture by means of a filter. The filter will retain the unwanted residues through its filter medium to make the mixture homogeneous. This is one separation technique among others.
We can also mention the decantation technique. This separation method consists of separating two different liquids. The one with the higher density will move to the bottom of a container, while the other liquid will move to the top. It is only when we can distinguish two liquids clearly that we can separate them.
